SALT Galata, Workshop II-III
In the midst of the dense urbanized fabric of Istanbul, Ottoman fountains retain visual power as urban landmarks. Associate Professor in the Department of Archeology and History of Art at Koç University, Shirine Hamadeh will explore the emergence of fountains as landscape monuments in the Ottoman capital. Her talk will navigate their rise into fashionable objects of patronage, and their role as ultimate venues for artistic experimentation.
Organized in parallel to
Commissioners' Exhibition at SALT Galata, the talk will be held in English. Included in the exhibition,
Map of Women Patrons' Structures in Ottoman Istanbul is on view until November 26 on floor -1.
Shirine Hamadeh is the author of
