Çekmeköy Underground [Arabesque Underground] (2014)
Director: Aysim Türkmen
96 minutes
Turkish; English subtitles

This film is a depiction of youth within a slum neighborhood in Istanbul, now transforming into luxuries suburbs. While preparing for a talent contest, at the same time they are working on an "arabesque rap" style clip, but Istanbul's ruthless glimmer pulls a trigger on their dreams.

Underlying the story of the film, director Aysim Türkmen's research on the city culture was discussed as part of 90, a program responding to questions about contemporary Istanbul, which took place in 2011 at SALT Beyoğlu.
