Director of Research and Programs

Salt is seeking a Director of Research and Programs to develop the institution's research and programming strategies, lead transdisciplinary projects, and represent Salt locally and internationally.

Founded by Garanti BBVA in 2011, Salt is a not-for-profit cultural institution that develops innovative programs and research projects in the fields of art, architecture, design, and urban, social, and economic history. In addition to its exhibition spaces, the institution houses an extensive library and archive collection and offers a wide range of programs, including exhibitions, publications, research projects, as well as talks, conferences, screenings, and workshops.

Key Responsibilities

The Director of Research and Programs will work closely with the Executive Director to design and implement Salt's short- and long-term research and program strategies. The ideal candidate will bring a strong strategic vision and the ability to think holistically across a broad spectrum—from exhibitions and public programming to research-driven projects and publishing—while fostering transdisciplinary engagement. The position requires curatorial experience, a proven track record in research and publishing, a collaborative approach, and the ability to represent the institution both locally and internationally.

This role involves planning and executing exhibitions and public programs, as well as archival and library projects within Salt Research. Key responsibilities include building strategic partnerships to strengthen Salt's visibility, developing programs that deepen engagement with visitors, researchers, and users, and leading the Salt Research and Programs team.

Qualifications

Candidates are expected to hold a master's degree in art history, architecture, design, social sciences, or related fields. They should have at least eight years of project management and curatorial experience in the field of arts and culture; a strong professional network at local and international levels; demonstrated competence in the development and execution of exhibitions, publications, and research projects; and experience in fundraising and budget management. Strategic thinking, team leadership, advanced written and oral communication skills in English, and willingness to learn Turkish are also required.
